So, when is there a semantical difference between the taking of ones own life and sacrifice a difference. Suicide is what it is. Period point blank. And yes, Asuka DOES try to off herself- freakin Misato even said something along those very lines. FYI Rei went against Gendo's direct order to cease and desist. So IE suicide. The taking of ones life. *shrug*

Anyways, Asuka never slits her wrists. When does that happen? The water in the tub looks dark because of the weird lighting coming from the sunset.
And I wouldn't call self-destucting your Eva to destroy an Angel that's already infesting it (and your body) "suicide." Sacrifice, I guess, but what else was Rei supposed to do? If she hadn't done that, it would have eventually taken control over the Eva and probably killed her anyways.

Asuka DOES try suicide after she's mind raped. When she's laying in the tub, she slashed her wrists. Rei killed herself when she blew up Unit 00; against Gendo's orders.
